PAINT FROM LIFE
An invitation to slow down, observe more deeply, and rediscover the joy of painting from life.
Creativity - Connection - Community
Who We Are
Paint from life is a growing community built on creativity, connection and community. We exist to encourage people to slow down, make time to create, and connect with the world through painting and drawing from direct observation. Whether you’re an experienced artist or a complete beginner, you’re welcome.
The Three Pillars
Creativity
Making time for your creative practice.
Connection
Connecting with yourself and your surroundings through direct observation.
Community
Creating alongside others in a welcoming, supportive environment.
My Mission
Paint from Life was born from a simple belief: Creativity is always there. Sometimes it just needs an invitation.
We all lead busy lives. Work, family and endless commitments often leave little room for ourselves. Creativity becomes something we tell ourselves we’ll come back to “one day.”
My mission is to make that day today.
The idea for Paint from Life was cemented while I was judging a local Artist of the Year competition.
As I walked around, I spoke to every artist individually. I asked them how they were, what they enjoyed painting and, most importantly, why they had come.
Although everyone had their own story, many of the answers were remarkably similar.
“I’ve always wanted to do more painting.”
“Life just gets in the way.”
“I finally made time for myself today.”
One conversation has stayed with me ever since.
An older gentleman sat quietly at the back with a small sketchbook, painting delicate pen and watercolour studies. He told me he only ever painted on holiday. Each sketch captured a place, a date and a memory. Looking through his book, he could remember exactly where he had been and how that moment had felt.
Then he told me something that stopped me.
He hadn’t painted at all for almost two years..
Not because he’d stopped loving it. Life had simply become busy. Yet by committing to that one event, he’d given himself permission to spend an entire day doing something he loved. That conversation reminded me that creativity doesn’t disappear. It waits. Sometimes all it needs is an invitation.
That’s what Paint from Life hopes to be.
An invitation to step outside To slow down. To observe more carefully. To reconnect with your creativity and with the world around you.
Paint from life isn’t about becoming a better artist. That simply happens along the way. It’s about making space in our busy lives to be present, to create without pressure, and to rediscover the joy of seeing.
Whether you’re an experienced artist, a complete beginner, or someone who’s simply curious, you’re welcome.
Bring whatever materials you have.
Bring your curiosity.
We’ll paint from life—together.
